Assessment Overview
Assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning. It is the purposeful collection of evidence about students achievements. An awareness of what learning is assessed and how it is assessed helps both students and parents/carers to develop an understanding of what is valued and where to focus attention.
Assessment is used for a variety of purposes, but its most important use is in supporting student learning. Sufficient and suitable evidence is collected to enable fair judgments to be made about student learning. Once the evidence is collected and analysed, it is summarised and presented in ways that are meaningful and useful to:help students achieve the highest standards they can promote, assist and improve teaching and learning build a shared understanding of the qualities of student work and communicate meaningful information about students’ progress and achievements to students, teachers, parents/carers and the system.s
